On Driving

I never planned on learning how to drive or wanted to get a car (the latter still stands), however one day my parents decided to buy me the lessons first, and inform me later.

Even after passing my driving exam, receiving my physical license and hitting the road with my mother as often as I could during my holiday visit, I still struggle to accept that I'm a driver. Me. Behind the wheel of a car. In charge of its movements. I didn't realize I'd grown this much.

To child me, driving seemed to be the ultimate adult accomplishment and show of responsibility because to me, commandeering a metal death trap at high speeds and holding the safety of your loved ones and complete strangers every second while you're on the road - that made you superhuman.

The road is a lot scarier now, after being disillusioned with adulthood.
